How to stay in a simplicity mindset while making remodeling decisions for your home

April 17, 2019 in Blog

Lateley I’ve been a little obsessed with re-doing my kitchen, but I moved out of state to live a simplier life. I have done everything from online planning tools to going to Ikea. But I don’t want to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a kitchen remodel.

Because I’m trying to live a simple life the best descision would probably be to slap a coat of paint on everything and call it a day. However there are more things to consider than just that.

  1. Can I live with the layout?
  2. Will I be happy in that kitchen?
  3. How will this affect the value of my property?
  4. Willl I feel encouraged to cook?

So I came up with with a middle of the ground solution. Keep as much of the layout as I can and make some minor changes. Also when it comes to finishes if they are still good then keep them. For example, my floors are in perfect condition and my cabinets are solid wood. So if I am able to gently move around some of the existing cabinets, then I will keep them. If not, well then we move on to new cabinets.

Think about how this will affect the value of your home. If what you spend will increase your value exactly the amount that you spend then you are golden. At the end of the day if everything algns with your simple lifestyle and happiness then you should do it.

One of the easiest ways to stay in budget during your remodel (and afterwards) is by making eco-friendly decisions. Eco-friendly building will save you tons of money in utility costs later on.
